This review is from: Newman's Own Organics Advanced Dog Formula for Active or Senior Dogs, 12.5-Pound Bag (Grocery) I cannot express enough how pleased I am with this dog food. I feed my 11 year old German Shepard, and my two year old Pittie Girl this food every day, and the benefits are astounding. For most of my Shepards life I fed her a well known, vet recommended food, and yet she always had stomach problems. Trying many things, it was not until I rescued, and I should really say she rescued me, and the dog food recall, that I began doing research on brands of food. After a long investigation, I decided on Newman's Own, not only because there had been no recall on the food, but because of the ingredients, and that the proceeds going to charity. Now, choosing this brand, would mean that I would have to order it online, because my local stores did not carry it, but that was all right with me, because not only do I enjoy online ordering, but I am an older, disabled woman, and getting to the store and hauling in packages is very hard for me. Well, I want to tell you, My 11 year old thrives on... Read more 34 of 34 people found the following review helpful ![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Newman's Own Organics Adult Dog Food Formula, 12.5-Pound Bag (Grocery) I adopted a dog that was raised by a bunch of frat age boys. You can imagine the diet she had; Burgers, fries, ice-cream, and the cheapest dog foods on the market. No, she wasn't crazy about Newman's dog food when I switched her to it. But if you think about how people react to a healthy diet in the beginning it makes sense. It takes time for the taste buds to adjust and not want the artificial ingredients put into most of the food out there. It has been almost a year. My dog, Molly, is bouncy and healthy and almost allergy free. She gets dry Newman's fed free style, and 4 ounces of Newman's canned every day. Her weight stays stable at 65 pounds which is perfect for her. Her treats are real meat jerky strips a few times a week. On another note, this diet has made doggy duty much easier. She never vomits anymore. Her scat is always firm, making her easy to clean up after. She is regular as clock-work. All these plusses make it more enjoyable to... We tried various brands of dog food before settling on Newman's Own. Our dog loves it and has not had any more trouble with his stomach. It is hard to find though. I was buying it from a small local organic grocery store but they only carried it in the smallest size and I was paying almost twice as much as on Amazon. Now I have it set up on Amazon to ship monthly. |

Not so much groundbreaking, but some interesting articles. But I give it one star because of new policies in place. I got a pretty nasty letter from the "Rodele Credit Department" (the publisher of OG) with harsh phrases like "in an attempt to collect this debt...", "to give you a chance to resolve this matter before it goes further...". "You must respond to this letter to resolve this matter." I thought, wow, this is how you ask me to renew my subscription? Using strong-arm tactics for renewal of a Green Magazine? This is unexpected. I'm feeling bullied.Talking to their customer service today, twice, they freely admit that customers are slammed into auto-renewal if they don't respond saying "no" to something I don't even remember receiving. Then they are threatened with collection procedures for not paying "what I already owe". Yuk! Double yuk! This can be straightened out with a phone call, and they... Farrell (Des Moines, IA, US) - See all my reviews This review is from: Organic Gardening (2-year) (Magazine) I subscribed to Organic Gardening decades ago when the magazine was digest size, printed on non-glossy paper, and jam packed with in-depth, substantive articles that took hours to read and even longer to think about. Now I can read the entire magazine in a brief sitting, and rarely find much to mull over afterward. It's departed from its origins as an intelligent publication focusing on the precepts and practicalities of growing organically, in favor of pandering to the attention-challenged reader who can't--or won't--concentrate on anything beyond quick bytes and pretty pictures. In short, it's abandoned a grown up approach for that of a little child's picture book without much content. I may or may not renew my subscription when it expires in another year. The few interesting bits that crop up--surprisingly--from time to time may keep me engaged. We'll see what the next year brings. 59 of 61 people found the following review helpful ![]() By This review is from: Organic Gardening (2-year) (Magazine) This is a pretty decent magazine for organic gardeners. It is rather thin though. I haven't found myself needing some of the info given, but other articles have been useful. This of course makes sense because we all grow different things! There are articles that aren't related to gardening. For example, the issue of organic & non organic milk. I think this would relate more to an issue on farming not gardening. Plus it wasn't even about raising your own cows, it was about factory cows, milk in the store. Anyway, it's a decent source for the beginner. The best resource out there is the Rodales Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening. It is simply PACKED with useful information. |

These spikes should also work well for any kind of fruiting vegetable. The spikes last for 8 weeks at a time, and provides a nice, steady slow release fertilizer. This makes for very convenient gardening. For tomatoes I use them at half the recommended rate, and supplement with potassium and magnesium rich fertilizers (epsom salt, greensand, wood ash, miracle-gro for tomatoes). For hot peppers I use them at 1/3 the recommended rate and a small amount of epsom salt (these plants don't need much fertilizer, but are somewhat magnesium hungry). My crops on both kinds of plants are great, and I'm quite happy with these. I only wish they had a low-nitrogen spike with more potassium in it for tomatoes (ie: 2-6-7, instead of 2-7-4) 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful ![]() By Caribbean Cruisine (Wherever you are) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Jobe's 6028 50-Pack Organic Vegetable Fertilizer Food Spikes (Lawn & Patio) Instructions call for using 8 spikes per plant or 8 spikes per square foot. At 50 spikes per bag, that is enough for 6 plants or 6 square feet. We are not sure if this many are truly required, but have used them as instructed with excellent results. A rather sad Fish Pepper, for example, perked with color and started giving larger fruit within days of application. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful ![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Jobe's 6028 50-Pack Organic Vegetable Fertilizer Food Spikes (Lawn & Patio) I dont really like it cause it requires you to use 8 spikes per plant which makes it very costly to use in a small farm or even a home garden. I wish I knew that before buying it. |
